This week was presented in Santiago, Chile, the new two floor bus that will be incorporated to public transport system Transantiago for one month and a half , as part of a trial period. The idea is to prove if the size of the bus suits the characteristics of the city. The bus is manufactured by the english company, Alexandre Dennis. This type of buses operates in diverse cities which had explored a range of options for more sustainable urban transport as London, Ciudad de Mexico, Toronto and Hong-Kong . According to that, the bus complies with the Euro VI standard, which pollutes less the environment, and has a structure that reduces the expense of fuel, noise and emissions. The ambassador of United Kingdom in Chile, Fiona Coudler, said: “this bus is an icon of London, which contributes to the concept of a smarter city as its advanced technology allows it to generate less pollution, both acoustic and environmental”.

Chilean government intends to carry out more tests with different buses before 2018, year in which the contracts with actual transport operators expire. The Ministry of transport an telecommunications has invited operators and manufacturers to propose other bus alternatives for the new bidding process, with the objective of meeting the most efficient standards of performance and environmental care and also improving the quality of services.
